Memphis Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Memphis Barbecue Sauce

Servings: 2 cups

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minched
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Blue Agave Nectar or can use molasses
  • 1 tbsp mustard prepared
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt can be substituted with Himalyian salt
  • 1/8 tsp red pepper ground red pepper or 1 tablespoon of hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke optional

Method
 

  1. Heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add in the onions and garlic and saute around 3 to 5 minutes until golden.
  3. Stir in the remaining ingredients except for the liquid smoke and simmer for around 10 minutes.
  4. Lastly, add in the liquid smoke, stir and let simmer for another 5 minutes.
  5. *Optional - Puree to remove any solids if you want your BBQ sauce without bits of onion and garlic.
